Late summer planting at Turn End.

Late summer planting at Turn End.

An interesting and inspiring guided garden walk in the renowned Turn End Gardens followed by a delicious Scandinavian lunch at destination cafe, Norsk. Designed and made by architect Peter Aldington and his wife, Margaret, and an expression of the architects's belief that architecture and landscape design are an indivisible whole, these gardens are on a very human, even modest, scale, and offer lots of ideas that can be integrated at home especially in smaller spaces.

An illusion of space is created in an area of less than an acre and there are courtyards with pools, a small woodland around old apple trees and a curved glade leading to a series of garden rooms - sunken or raised, sunny or shady, geometric or formal. The gardens, and house, are grade 2* listed which reflects the quality and importance of this development which was designed and built in the 1960s.

We will start our walk with an informative talk by gardener, Jackie Hunt, before wandering around ourselves. The design elements and planting are delightful and there is masses to enjoy. I'll point out the details and we'll chat all things plant and design and discuss how you might use the ideas in your own garden. Please also bring your garden questions and I will hope to answer them.

We may also visit the studio of Artist in Residence, Heather Hunter - I’m waiting to hear if she will be available that day.

After visiting the garden we will walk 5 minutes down the road to Norsk, where we will enjoy the famous open sandwiches. Lunch is included and vegan, gluten or dairy free dietary requirements can be catered for.

Places are limited.

Walk participants enjoying the lovely West Green Gardens…

Friday 3 April, 11 - 2.00 pm

An inspiring and informative guided garden walk in the lovely West Green House Gardens, near Hook in Hampshire.  Designed by renowned Australian garden designer, Marilyn Abbot, the National Trust owned gardens include a gorgeous walled garden with vegetable wheel, a topiary courtyard garden, a woodland stream walk and masses more.  There's running water, gorgeous planting and atmosphere galore.

In early April the spring meadow should be doing its thing - expect a carpet of narcissus, hellebores, ferns and plenty of spring flowering lovelies…

Experience the garden alongside knowledgeable garden designer, Sarah Layton, of Growthfully, and let her inspire you to glean ideas for your own garden. The design elements and planting are delightful in this garden and there is masses to enjoy.  I'll point out the design details and we'll chat about how you might use the ideas in your own garden.  Please also bring your questions and I will hope to answer them.

My approach is all about helping garden-owners make the most of their gardens for personal wellbeing as well as practicality and during the walk I will invite each of us to use our senses in a focused way and come fully present in this gorgeous and peaceful space.

A simple soup and sandwich private lunch in the greenhouse is included.  Places are strictly limited so that there is plenty of time for chatting and making connections.
